Warm wishes to all and we hope the holiday period brought some joy and respite to everyone! January 2021 has arrived with its own set of challenges; however, it is a new year and a new start, and we wish everyone all the very best for 2021. We are excited to look forward with renewed positivity!
To start the year off as we mean to go on, we would like to celebrate the first Safety Champion of 2021! This award goes to Second Officer Callum Dunlop.
The award is given for Callum's recent observation regarding an automated galley service hatch which closes when the fire alarm is activated. This was noted during scheduled maintenance and detector testing, and it was noted that there is a lack of general awareness and information around this on board. The issue was therefore raised at a safety meeting and Callum created a poster to place beside the galley hatch to inform galley users of the potential danger.
We would like to thank Callum for his proactive approach to on board safety and wish him congratulations for gaining the first Safety Champion award for 2021!
In the spirit of celebrating the new year, we would also like to give a special mention to the crew on board FS Abergelide. The deck crew actioned the use of our on board ‘Stop the Job’ whilst bunkering and experiencing significant back pressure and this serves as a reminder to all our crew to use the Stop the Job action whenever and wherever it is needed.
Thank you to all our crew for their continued contributions to maintaining and improving our Safety Culture, here’s to a happy and healthy 2021.
